Anathapind Patpedhi
In society, financial support is not merely a transaction of money; it is the foundation of trust, cooperation, and mutual reliance. When people of a community come together to lend a helping hand, that cooperation can transform the lives of many families. In times of crisis, when an individual needs support, the community standing by them is the true essence of humanity.
With this very sentiment, our foundation established the “Anathapind Patpedhi” initiative. This project is named after the great donor and lay follower of the Buddhist tradition, Anathapindika.

During the era of Lord Gautama Buddha, Anathapindika was regarded as a symbol of kindness, compassion, and generosity. He dedicated a vast portion of his wealth to the work of the Dhamma and social welfare. He offered the famous Jetavana Monastery to the Buddha and the Sangha, which is considered one of the greatest acts of donation in history.
In the Buddhist tradition, there have been many such generous lay followers who considered Dhamma work as the core of their lives. The great female follower Visakha created an ideal of compassion through her massive donations. Similarly, Jivaka Komarabhacca served the Sangha and society through his medical expertise. The tradition of service and donation shown by these great personalities continues to inspire society even today.
Inspired by this legacy, “Anathapind Patpedhi” has been established. In this credit society, members of the community come together to contribute small savings, and from that collective fund, financial assistance is provided to those in need.
Through this medium, many youth and women can start their own small businesses. Some families receive help to build their homes, while others find support for their children’s education. Sometimes, a family faces a sudden medical emergency—in difficult situations like illness, treatment, or hospital expenses, this society rushes to their aid.
Therefore, this society is not just a financial institution; it is a compassionate tradition of standing by one another during the sorrows and crises of people in the community.
A short poem reflecting this sentiment:
Anathapind said to the Buddha, “I do have wealth, it is true, But what would its value be If it remained only with me?”
The Buddha replied calmly, “Charity is not of the wealth, But of the value of compassion. Where the heart steps forward For the sorrow of another, That is where true wealth is born.”
The hands that gave in charity Are still alive today, Because through that flow of compassion, Countless lives are still being enlightened.
Anathapind Patpedhi is a small but meaningful extension of that great tradition of donation in modern times. The inspiration behind this initiative is that people should come together to support each other in times of trouble, become financially empowered, and strengthen society through a sense of cooperation.
Because when one human being stands up for another, it is not just financial help; it is the creation of a true society built on compassion, trust, and unity.
