Ek Pen Ek Vahi Abhiyan
There are many ways to pay tribute to great personalities in our society. Often, we garland their statues, offer flowers, and remember them for a few moments. However, if we truly wish to pay homage to these great souls, it is far more important to put their thoughts and their message of education into practice.
Lord Gautama Buddha taught that ignorance is a major cause of human suffering, and knowledge is the only path to emerge from that darkness. The Buddha inspired humanity to think, to learn, and to seek the truth. Therefore, spreading the light of knowledge to others has been considered a supreme form of charity.
Inspired by this very thought, our foundation started a unique social initiative—the “One Pen, One Notebook” campaign
The simple yet deeply meaningful idea behind this campaign is that instead of offering flowers to great personalities, if we place a pen and a notebook in the hands of poor and needy students, it would be a true and living tribute to them. Lighting the lamp of education is the greatest salutation one can offer to their ideals.
When we began this initiative, many had not even imagined such a concept. But we built this project with conviction. We reached out to children in impoverished areas, slums, and those deprived of educational resources, trying to provide a small support in their educational journey by giving them a pen and a notebook.
Today, we feel proud that this small effort has taken the form of a major movement. The “One Pen, One Notebook” campaign is being implemented in many villages, localities, and schools across Maharashtra. Many social organizations, youth, and volunteers are joining this cause.
This is the true earning of our work—a small idea took root in society and has today become the educational backbone for thousands of children.
Because of this campaign, many poor students held their own notebook and pen for the very first time. Seeing the joy on their faces, it felt as though they weren’t just holding a notebook, but had been given new hope for their future.
The Buddha’s teachings say: “He who gives the light of knowledge to others, shines brighter himself.”
A short poem reflecting this sentiment:
Flowers wither away, But thoughts remain immortal; The true worship of great souls Happens only through the lamp of knowledge.
Therefore, instead of flowers,
We placed pens in their hands;
And to those empty hands,
We gave a notebook of dreams.
From that small notebook,
The future shall be written;
From a single pen,
The society of tomorrow will be shaped.
If the lamp of knowledge is lit,
Darkness will vanish on its own;
The pen in a child’s hand
Will write the history of tomorrow.
“One Pen, One Notebook” is not just a campaign to distribute stationery; it is a social movement to bring the light of education to every poor student.
If we give a child a pen and a notebook today, that very boy or girl can become a capable citizen who builds society through their knowledge tomorrow. This is our true and living tribute to the thoughts of the great ones and the tradition of knowledge established by the Buddha.
